WEEKEND EVENTS: National Public Gardens Day, kiln opening and Spring Fling

ATHENS, Ga. – There are tons of fun events going on this weekend, in your area. We’ve listed a few of them for you to check out with your family and friends.

To commemorate National Public Gardens Day, sponsored by the Rain Bird and American Public Gardens Association, nationwide gardens are offering free admission with a coupon printout, which can be found here. The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, located in Athens, is accepting these coupons. The Garden is located about three miles south of the University. The address is 2450 South Milledge Avenue in Athens.

Visit Vines Garden in Loganville on Sunday May 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for National Train Day at Vines Garden. This event is being presented by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation. Engineers will be on hand holding information sessions on trains at the largest railroad in the Southeast.

ATLANTA -- Two local Simon Malls invite Atlanta moms to let their hair down at the 3rd annual National Mom's Nite Out on Thursday, May 5.

Mall of Georgia and Town Center at Cobb will treat mothers to food, shopping, giveaways and swag given to the first 200 guests at each location.

"Both Mall of Georgia and Town Center at Cobb are thrilled to host a special evening to thank and celebrate mothers for all that they do," said Carol Cox, director of marketing and business development for Mall of Georgia.

Walmart "re-vitalizes" to win old customers back

ATLANTA – In effort to revive their customer base, Walmart is “re-invigorating” their price leadership promise.

According to Walter Woods of Cohn and Wolfe, “Walmart is putting the customer at the center of everything and taking specific steps to deliver one-stop shopping to its customers.”

Walmart is increasing their competitive checks to offer lower prices on many items. They’re also partnering with different suppliers to lower the cost per item on many of their items.

In additon to those changes, the company is bringing back its “Ad Match” policy, making it easier for customers to actually see their savings.
