One dead in Gwinnett Co. officer-involved shooting

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- One man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Buford.

According to Gwinnett County Police, the shooting happened on the 5300 block of Pass Court when they were dispatched to a "wanted person located" call at about 3:40 p.m.

Authorities were advised that 38-year-old Rodney Pike was at the residence and that he had active warrants out of Forsyth County. When officers arrived on the scene, Pike fled on foot into a car parked nearby.

Officers pursed Pike and even tased him; however he still managed to start the vehicle and begin driving it. Officers shot Pike after he struck one officer and was on the way to striking another.

Pike was pronounced dead on the scene. The injured officer was transported to a local medical center for evaluation.

Gwinnett County Police say the shooting is under investigation and that the two officers who fired shots will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
