Firefighters Battle Blaze at Vacant Gas Station

Around 3:00 p.m. on Monday, December 6th, firefighters responded to a report of smoke coming from a vacant convenience store, the Buford Express Gas Station, across from the Waffle House near I-985 in Buford. When fire crews arrived they made immediate entry to conduct a search and battle the blaze.  The fire was quickly contained to the corner of the building and sent smoke throughout.  The fire originated on the exterior of the store and spread to the inside.

The cause of this fire is currently under investigation, officials think it may be an act of arson. The business was vacant at the time of the fir and no injuries were reported. Fire investigators found signs of a previous mattress fire, but it is unknown when that fire may have occurred.

Georgia Arson Control, Inc. offers a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for arson.  Call the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1.800.282.5804 or the Gwinnett Fire Arson & Explosives Investigations Section at 678.518.4890.
