Gwinnett recognizes 2012 STAR Students | Schools

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Gwinnett County's annual STAR Student and Teacher Luncheon was held on Thursday, February 16.

This event celebrates the STAR Students from each of the county's high schools. To receive the honor, a high school senior must be in the top 10 percent of his or her class and earn the highest SAT score among his or her peers.

STAR Teachers are selected by the STAR Students as the teachers who inspired, challenged and encouraged them the most throughout their high school careers.

"We are so very proud of our STAR Students and Teachers. They are indeed stars, representing the best and brightest in our schools," said Dr. Galey Hey, deputy superintendent of teaching and learning for Gwinnett County schools. "Academically, these students have excelled in our schools and are prepared for the future. Part of that preparation was provided by the stellar teachers we also recognize today. We appreciate all that they do, day in and day out, for our students."

This year's two county-wide STAR Students are Michael Song of Brookwood High and Andrew Alin of Norcross High; they had the two highest SAT scores among Gwinnett County's entire Class of 2012.
