Game of the Week Nominees: Playoffs Rd. Three

ALPHARETTA, GA -- Round Three of the Georgia high school football playoffs kick off this Friday and there are some great matchups, including 11Alive and Atlanta.HighSchoolSports.net's Game of the Week between Dutchtown and Chattahoochee.

The 11-1 Bulldogs travel to play undefeated Chattahoochee. On paper, this matchup will be a battle of top-notch offense and top-notch defense.

Dutchtown's defense has not allowed a point this postseason and has notched five shutouts throughout the year. They have yet to give up more than 14 points per game. Comparatively, Chattahoochee has not scored less than 31 points in a game this season.

On offense, Dutchtown has yet to score a touchdown in either of their first two playoff games; all 18 of their points have come off of the foot of kicker Ryan Kay. Last week, Dutchtown beat Glynn Academy 3-0.

Toy Test: Great Find or Waste of Money?

BUFORD, Ga.-- Most parents have been there. They buy the perfect Christmas toy. It's supposed to be fun and teach children new skills. Instead, it sits there ignored. It's a waste of time and money. 11Alive is saving you both by testing the toys before you buy them.

The Goddard School in Buford was part of a nation-wide toy test. The Goddard test is in its third year. The toy finalists sent to each participating school had to meet a series of qualifications: are non-toxic, are appropriate for children ages 2-6, are designed to encourage playful learning, have a child-initiated play focus, are interactive, and encourage creativity and social interaction.

Lighthouse Retreats Aid Cancer Families

Atlanta- - It is a remarkable idea that helped more than 700 families families deal with childhood cancer.

The Lighthouse Family Retreat founded in 1999 serves children with cancer and their families at Seaside and other beaches along 30-A.

Lighthouse has a simple directive helping kids and their parents to laugh, restore family relationships and find hope in spirituality.

The 2010 Patron's of Hope Dinner was held inside the Doubletree Buckhead-Atlanta Hotel.

Entertainer Jeff Foxworthy was among those in attendance.

The event also recognized the efforts of Atlanta businessman Charles Renfroe who has been a driving force behind the organization.

Each retreat is comprised of approximately 12 retreat families and 30 volunteers who serve the families by cooking, cleaning and taking care of daily responsibilities so that the retreat families can focus on having fun together.

Georgia High School Football Playoffs: 2A Preview

CLASS 2A

Favorite: Carver-Columbus

Predicted Final Four: Carver-Columbus, Calhoun, Buford, Swainsboro

Easiest Draw: Swainsboro. The Tigers get 5-5 Brooks County and then 8-2 Morgan County or 7-3 Vidalia. Swainsboro gets to avoid Region 6 until at least the quarterfinals and gets the weakest playoff team out of a strong Region 1.

Toughest Draw: Elbert County. Though they are in the same quarter bracket as Swainsboro, their draw is much more difficult. In Round One, the Blue Devils play the toughest four seed in Lovett. In Round Two, Elbert County would most likely play 9-1 Dade County. In the quarterfinals, the Blue Devils would probably play undefeated Swainsboro.

Governor's Office Looks into Kenerly Indictment

ATLANTA -- Governor Sonny Perdue in one of his last acts in office has appointed a panel to look into the indictment of Gwinnett Commissioner Kevin Kenerly.

In an executive order Wednesday, Gov. Perdue appointed Attorney General Thurbert Baker, Cobb County Commissioner Tim Lee and Forsyth County Commissioner Charlie Laughinghouse to review the grand jury's decision in response to a series of land deals.

The commission is charged with determining whether "the rights and interests of the public" will be affected by the indictment, setting up Kenerly for a possible suspension from the board while the case plays out in court.

The report is due in two weeks.

A grand jury indicted Kenerly a month ago on charges of bribery and failing to disclose a financial interest in properties up for rezoning.

Kenerly and his lawyer Walt Britt attended the hearing but declined to comment on the indictment, saying they hadn't seen it.
