Mother of murdered 2-year-old tried to break up with boy's father | News
BUFORD, Ga -- The family of a 2-year-old boy killed by his father after a standoff with police told 11 Alive News the father was upset because the boy’s mother tried to end their relationship.
Son Nguyen, the boy’s uncle, said Huyen Nguyen told Thy Ho she wanted their relationship to end and he could no longer live in her house. “She wanted to end the relationship but allow him to visit the kid,” the uncle said. “The kid needs to have a mother and a father.”
Son Nguyen said Ho and the mother had been living together for about three years and he believes her demand set him off. “This time he go in (the house) and he don’t want to come out,” Nguyen said. “She asked him to leave and he won’t come out.”
“I don’t understand why you kill your own kid,” he said. “I don’t understand.”
Nguyen took 11 Alive’s Kevin Rowson into the house Thursday to show him how much damage was left behind after the standoff in the home. Doors were smashed where police entered the master bedroom after Ho shot his son and then himself. There were several holes in the walls where police tried to breach the bedroom.
Nguyen said he is giving Huyen Nguyen a loan to cover funeral costs for her son Phillip. He said she doesn’t have enough money to make repairs in her home.
On Thursday police released 911 calls that were made by Huyen Nguyen’s daughter. “He is threatening everyone,” she said. “He's threatening to kill himself in our house it's just like this is not okay.”
Son Nguyen said he never liked Ho and was happy Phillip's mother was breaking up with him. He never thought he would do what he did. “I mean it had to be an animal, not a human,” he said. “In my opinion that's an animal.”
