Police serve search warrant in case of missing dad

UPDATE:  Thursday afternoon, Lawrenceville Police Capt. Jeff Smith told 11Alive News "there were some items of interest that we took from the property, back to our department for further analysis."  The items of interest, he said, included the burned contents of a barrel that might figure into the search for clues into Waters' disappearance.  As for any connection between Waters and the owners of the property where the search for clues took place, Smith would say only, "I'm not sure how or if they knew the missing person.  The investigation led us to that residence."

Smith acknowledged that the address on Shadburn Ferry Rd., on the shores of Lake Lanier, is the same area where the body of Kelly Nash was found, in the lake, in April.  Nash and Waters disappeared in January within a day of each other -- Nash was last seen in Buford, and Waters was last seen in Lawrenceville.  Waters grew up in Buford.  l

Those apparent connections are nothing more than coincidence, Smith said.  "We believe there is absolutely no connection between this case and the Kelly Nash case."

BUFORD, Ga. (WXIA-TV) -- Police served a search warrant at a home on Lake Lanier in the case of a missing father Thursday morning. Samuel Waters, 21, has been missing since January 4, 2015.

Waters disappeared near the intersection of Hillcrest Green Drive and Hurricane Shoals Road near the duplex where he lived with his pregnant fiance. Jhel Solas gave birth to their daughter, Althea, a little more than a month after he disappeared.

Lawrenceville police Captain Jeff Smith told 11Alive's Jon Shirek, "We're looking for evidence that might help advance the case". He would not elaborate on any other details of the search warrant issued for the home on Shadburn Ferry Road in Buford. He did confirm several detectives and the mobile command unit were on hand. 11Alive chopper video showed investigators near a burn barrel. The contents had been spread out on a tarp, where law enforcement experts were searching though the burned contents.

The Hall County Sheriffs Department and the GBI were assisting Lawrenceville police with the search. Stay with 11Alive.com for updates on the search.
