Buford's Kaela Davis has season ended by illness

Buford's Kaela Davis has season ended by illness

BUFORD, Ga. -- One day after learning that Kaela Davis would no longer play for the Buford girls basketball team, 11Alive News has learned that her departure from the team is due to an illness.

Buford High School officials and the Davis family have refused to make any public comments about the matter that has seen one of the nation's top high school recruits sidelined since Buford's 44-40 loss to Wesleyan back on January 26.

Kaela did not attend Friday night's game against North Hall, but her parents were there.  Both Antonio and Kendra Davis would not go on camera for interviews but did share with 11Alive that Kaela's departure from the Buford team was due to an illness. Meniere's Disease affects hearing and can cause symptoms simular to vertigo.

ATLANTA -- The USA Today Super 25 Boys Basketball Poll for Metro Atlanta is here.  The teams have made it through their holiday tournaments with two very familiar faces at the top.

When coaching legend Dr. Phil McCrary suddenly stepped down last summer, Kerry Sandifer was thrust into the lead role with a team that had won 3 straight state championships.  So far, not much has changed on Columbia Drive.  The Eagles beat Norcross in the final of their own holiday tournament and they are the number one team this week.

4-time state champion Miller Grove is next, followed by Hillgrove, Shiloh and Norcross to complete the top 5.  North Cobb is 6th this week, with Greater Atlanta Christian, North Gwinnett, Alatoona and Marist completing this week's top 10.
