Armored Car Robbers Hit Again, Shoot Courier | News
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA -- We were warned that it would happen again and it did. A violent robbing crew that is targeting armored car's struck again. The FBI says it is the sixth time the same two gunmen have jumped couriers while they were loading money into ATM's. They have hit ATM's from Marietta to Snellville.
The FBI was concerned the robbers were getting more brazen and they were worried someone would get hurt. It happened in the latest robbery when a courier was shot multiple times.
On Friday morning, a courier with Loomis Armored was loading a Wells Fargo ATM on Redan Road in Stone Mountain when two gunmen jumped him. "The courier was trying to do his job, which was loading the machine with money and he was not even given demands by the robber, he was just fired upon point blank," said FBI Special Agent Stephen Emmett.
A surveillance photo from the ATM shows the gunman firing a 380 caliber handgun that was pointed downwards. Special Agent Emmett said witnesses explained why. "We have witness testimony that states that the robber continued firing as the courier was on the ground," he said.
Fortunately none of the courier's wounds is life threatening. But it is the second time innocent people were put in the line of fire by these robbers. On December 7, 2010, two couriers were robbed inside the Mall of Georgia. One of the couriers fired his gun, but the suspect ran out a side door and didn't fire back into the crowded mall.
It started on September 14, 2010 at an ATM on Howell Mill Road. Two gunmen robbed a Garda Armored courier at the Bank of America. During the robbery, the courier was forced to the ground and his sidearm was taken by the robbers.
On October 7, 2010, a Dunbar Armored courier was robbed inside the Mex-America Latino store on South Marietta Parkway in Marietta. In that robbery the suspects were waiting inside the store for the courier to arrive.
On November 11, 2010, a Dunbar Armored courier was robbed while filling an ATM at the Bank of America on Buford Highway in Buford. The FBI said the courier was approached from behind by two gunmen.
On November 29, 2010, a courier from Loomis Armored was robbed at gunpoint while servicing an ATM at the Wells Fargo Bank on Centerville Highway in Snellville. The FBI said the courier was approached from behind by a gunman who placed a semi-automatic handgun to his head.
After the latest robbery, Loomis Armored announced a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Wells Fargo is offering a $10,000 reward. Anyone with information regarding the courier robberies should contact the FBI at (404) 679-9000.
