Wrecked police car provides sobering reminder of Move Over Law
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A totaled car is turning heads among visitors to Gwinnett County's Justice and Administration Center.
Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway and the county's board of commissioners placed the car there for a very important reason -- to stress the importance of Georgia's Move Over Law.
The car belonged to Gwinnett County Sheriff's Deputy Justin Lunt. Last year, Lunt activated the car's lights and parked it alongside a roadway to provide visibility and protection for a work crew. The car was rear-ended by a driver who later told police he was changing music on his phone when the accident occurred.
Lunt was seriously injured in the crash and still has not returned to work. His wrecked car will be on display, along with a banner reinforcing the law's purpose, through the end of April.
